Craft show is finale for Johanning director
Public speaking isn't exactly Kelli Austin's first love. "I'd much rather be behind the scenes. It just never works out that way," she mused.But it comes with the territory sometimes. Taking center stage at the Johanning Civic Center, Austin dug her hands into some flour and baking soda and got to work."Always make sure your hands are clean so everyone can enjoy the cookies," she instructed a few passers-by and children stopping to listen to her presentation on cookie mix in a jar. "I was a nervous wreck but I got in my little zone. I make these at home all the time," Austin said.This is the last weekend Austin will be putting on a show at the Johanning, called "Get Crafting Show." After nearly 31/2 years of serving as the executive director of City of Firsts Automotive Heritage Museum and the Johanning Civic Center, Austin is leaving for a marketing job at Guardian Angel Hospice in January."This is my last show.
Moss Helps Launch Tsunami Charity
Supermodel Kate Moss has helped launch a new charity set up in remembrance of her friend who died in 2004's Indian Ocean tsunami. The British beauty was devastated when she learned model booker Samantha Archer Fayet, who she befriended early in her career, had died in Thailand along with her 6-month-old daughter Ruby Rose. The SamandRuby charity, which has been set up by Samantha's husband Patrice Fayet, will be funded by sales of a new rose created in their memory. Moss says, "Sam was one of my oldest and closest friends. If my support for the charity helps kids get a better education and start in life, it's the least I can do in memory of Sam and Ruby Rose." .
Daughter demands NTR be conferred Bharat Ratna
HYDERABAD: The Bharat Ratna controversy took yet another turn with Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandareswari yesterday demanding that the nation�s highest civilian honour be conferred on her father, former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N T Rama Rao. Purandareswari made the demand on the occasion of her father�s 12th death anniversary. Paying her respects to N T Rama Rao, a hugely popular Telugu actor, she told newspersons that she had already sent a letter in this regard to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Garlanding the statue of her father in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, she said that NTR, as the actor was popularly known among his millions of fans, deserved the award for his contributions to the film industry and later his services to the people.
